The N.E.D Talks Mentoring Program utilizes Love Notes curriculum which empowers youth to identify and reach their highest potential, by helping them build the mindset and strength of good character. This program is an evidence-based curriculum that expounds on our fundamental personal rights. Our program is supported by our community of volunteer mentors, who dedicate at least 30 minutes a week to support our mentees.
Our Mission:
Guiding youth to believe in a positive future through building stronger life skills in the areas of: goal setting, problem solving, conflict resolution, character building, resiliency, critical and creative thinking.
Program Outline:
Weekly in classroom group sessions facilitated by TYRO certified instructors, Carlos Sanchez and Latonia Hanley, of Healthy Visions, supported with 1-on-1 Mentor/Mentee sessions.
Becoming a MENTOR: All application steps must be completed by 10/11/2019
*Details on how to complete both will be in an email following your mentor application
Mentor Responsibilities:
Volunteer Mentor Overview:
Volunteer hours will be from 8am–2pm at Reading Community High School. Healthy Visions matches an adult mentor with a student mentee from within the Reading High School. This commitment will be for one school year.
Mentor Support:
Healthy Visions will have dedicated Mentor support from its Mentor Program Manager and Classroom facilitators Adam Simmons and Jonelle Zachary, Mentor Program Coordinator Megan Sanchez, and with professional resources from Dr. Gary Sweeten, of Sweeten Life Systems.
Healthy Visions will carefully match mentors to mentees to ensure and support a successful match. Along with ongoing developmental training, Mentors will have access to resources aimed at easing and maximizing individual mentor/mentee sessions. Additional resources include an in-school activity box complete with suggestive topics, conversation starters, and meaningful activities.
